If you’ve already purchased a domain through a third-party provider like GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Google Domains, you can easily connect it to your website to make your brand more recognizable and accessible.
Before you begin, you'll need access to your domain provider's account. You'll be updating DNS settings, which control where your domain points. This can feel a bit intimidating, but you're not alone - think of it like updating a register that tells the internet where to find your site. We're always here to guide you through it.
Log in to your domain registrar's website.
Locate the DNS or domain management section.
Update the following records:
A Record: Point it to the IP address provided by Durable. You’ll find the exact details inside your Durable account - you're updating your external DNS to match the records we suggest.
CNAME Record (if required): Point the www version of your domain to your root domain or another specified value.
Remove any existing A, AAAA, or CNAME records that are not associated with Durable. These can interfere with your connection.
Leave MX records in place if you use an email service like Gmail or Outlook - they help route your email and shouldn't be changed.
Save your changes and allow up to 48 hours for the DNS updates to take effect. This period is known as propagation. During this time, internet servers around the world update their records to recognize the new settings. It’s a normal process and can’t be sped up - just how the internet works. Patience is key!
Once your domain is connected and the changes have propagated, your website will be live at your custom domain. Our system monitors external domain connections in the background, and our team will reach out if we detect any issues.
